For God and Country

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans organization. A community-service organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members -- men and women -- in nearly 15,000 American Legion Posts worldwide. These Posts are organized into 55 Departments -- one each for the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico, and the Philippines.

Established on November 19, 1919, Post 34 is the oldest Post in the 7th District of New York State. For more of our history, see below!

Turner-Schrader American Legion Post 34 was founded in November of 1919, and has been in continuous operation since then. It was incorporated in 1947, and in 1953, a post home was built on the present site.  As the membership grew, an addition was constructed in 1981. We expanded our borders again in 1999 with a $400,00 addition to our home.

Our bar/lounge facility is open 7 days a week, starting at noon. Our upstairs hall will seat over 260 people and is rented out for weddings, birthday parties and many other functions. Our building also serves as an emergency location for school students to assemble in the event of a problem at the school located right across the street.

The Legion gives five (5) scholarships each year to graduates of Red Jacket Central School. We also host many activities for members and their families, such as Christmas, Easter, Veterans Day, Memorial Day and other events. We support our community and invite them to attend many of our functions.

Although we are located in the Village of Shortsville, our members come from all over New York State, seventeen (17) other states, and all over the world (those members who are on active duty in the Armed Forces serving in defense of our country!).
